Family
The Omodei family first arrived in Pemberton in 1925 from the
mountains of Northern Italy and have farmed the land of Eastbrook
now for four generations, with the fifth generation growing
rapidly to continue the tale!
The first stage of the vineyard (6 hectares) was planted in 1999
from vine material sourced from the neighbouring vineyard Picardy.
Further plantings in 2000 and 2002 saw the area rise to 26 hectares
comprising the varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz,
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with careful vine/genetic material
selection being paramount. The experienced advice from Bill and Dan
Pannell from Picardy, ensured that the right varieties were matched
to the most suitable sites with regards to soils, rootstocks and
topography.
All establishment work was completed by the Omodei family including
nursery propagation, ground preparation, trellising and irrigation
installation. Justin Omodei maintains a high standard of
vineyard. Olde Eastbrook provides fruit of excellence,
which is used for their own premium wine and sourced annually by
several highly regarded names within the industry.
Paul Omodei Snr, now retired from politics runs a corporate and
government consultancy business. However, if an
opportunity arises he can be found welding and fixing
machinery in the shed!
Justin Omodei and his brother Paul Omodei both manage their
successful Diamond Farm Management business, using their years of
experience and knowledge to build several farm businesses within
the South-West.
Justin has set up 8 truffleries in recent years, one of which has already had their first season of black truffles. The Olde Eastbrook estate has been planted with innoculated trees for the elusive white truffle and black in 2010. If successful it will be the first white truffle produced in the state! Aside from wine and truffles, the farm management business also throws every element of farming and agriculture his way, which is why if you see the lights of a tractor late at night, or as dawn breaks it's likely to be Justin!
